This week has been a great mix of tasks from my second Lepra Health dance workout session, signing up people for the new blocks of classes, and starting to promote Dance HQ’s Kick Start Dance Summer School. This is all whilst continuing to rehearse for the upcoming Glasgow Student Dance Company Show.
This week I completed my second Lepra Health dance workout session in a primary school in South Ayrshire. Aside from the bitter wind we were greeted by, it went really well. The staff were very welcoming and it was great to see so much enthusiasm from the pupils. In comparison to my first session I felt a lot more confident in teaching my routines and encouraging the kids to really get involved. They all seemed like they enjoyed it, especially when we finished with Gangnam Style..I look forward to future sessions!
The next time I’ll be in primary schools, however, will be from the 17th February for seven weeks for the ‘Keep it Reel’ project. We’ve started to create a teaching plan and some games to introduce the movements that will be important throughout the sessions within the dances, such as Pas-de-Basques. I’m looking forward to seeing the dances develop over the weeks, and it’s going to be a great creative exercise getting the kids to create their own routines from what they will have learnt. It’s going to be a really good experience and I’m glad to be able to be a part of it.
If you’re kids are interested in starting dance, or they already attend classes, then why don’t you sign them up for Dance HQ’s Kick Start dance classes? These take place between the 7th-11th April for ages 5-16. They’ll learn a different style of dance over five days which will then be performed for family and friends. The usual price is £100, but if you book before 7th March you’ll pay £60 – a great discount!
There’s less than two weeks left of rehearsals now before I take to the stage with Glasgow Student Dance Company. All the dances are looking great and we’re all really looking forward to the shows. Check out our great promotional video below, and a couple of actions shots, for a look at some previous dance shows and a taster of the dances which we’ll be performing this year! We’ve all been working hard on the show since September, so if you can make it please come and watch. The shows are at the Mitchell Theatre on Friday 21st Feb at 7.30pm, Saturday 22nd Feb at 2.00pm and 7.30pm.
